Safety studies for a large international desalinization project
Tema Iberia has been a key contributor in different desalinization projects abroad.
At Tema we are currently working on an ambitious desalinization plant project in an Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The plant’s main objective is to supply desalinated water to a Petroleum Company at various locations to support drilling and fracking activities as well as an electrical utility, where it will be required as high-quality feed to a Cogeneration Plant.
The service TEMA provides has comprehensively analyzed risk scenarios and proposed design adjustments and other risk management actions for the following systems:

Tema plays an important role in this project by being responsible for the process hazard analysis (PHA), the functional safety instrumented systems integrity (SIL/LOPA) and the building risk assessment (BRA). These activities are essential to ensure the plant safe operation, minimizing any potential risk to both people and the environment while securing operational performance.
This is not the first desalinization project where TEMA implements its experience and capacity. We have carried out similar studies for other desalinization plants in Saudi Arabia earlier in 2023, systematically reviewing a mature design, identifying potential hazards and operational problems, and working on improvements, with the aim of ensuring safe and efficient operation.
